Not Dead.

No, I'm still kicking. Trying to find a way to redo the focus of this. Should have something new within a week or so. Stay tuned.

iPope

On the Baltimore Sun's website today, they ran a story today picked up from the AP, about the Pope, starting his own YouTube channel.

The story, which you can read in the link above, tells of how this is "the Vatican's newest effort to reach out to the members of the digital generation, and grant the Holy See a better control of the papal image online."

"The site, www.youtube.com/vaticanit, was launched the same day the pontiff praised as a "gift to humanity" the benefits of social networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace in forging friendships and understanding.

But Benedict also warned that virtual socializing had its risks, saying "obsessive" online networking could isolate people from real social interaction and broaden the digital divide by further marginalizing people."

There is sooo much that excites me about this story. I don't know if the Vatican has been paying attention to You Tube over the past few years, but this is definitely got the makings of a train wreck in progress. I'm certain that they're still under the impression that the Internet has it's faults, but in no way accounted for the new level of assininery that You Tube granted to people. In particular, I'm waiting for the inevitable Pope mash-ups from people, who are much better at editing video than myself.

Just think about it, within a few weeks, we'll have tons of videos of the pope, like you've never seen him before!! I for one, am waiting diligently for Pope on a piano (eating popcorn). Or maybe someone will dub one of his speaches over the Beatles, or Jay Z. Even better, if the Pope has some down time to himself, he might set up his own personal YouTube channel, lonelypope15, and just tell us about what it's like to just be himself. But what I think we're all really waiting for, is when the Pope forgets to turn his webcam off after a broadcast, and cranks up his itunes and just decided to rock out. Germans like techno, right? Of course they do.

Until then, we can only wait.

Allan is still lazy, overworked, mildly appreciated

Mmmm Hmmm, title says it all. In fact, I'm soooo lazy, that instead of writing a new post, I'm posting a link to an e-friends blog.

It's the most, wonderful time, of the year!

Well, it’s election time again. And you all know what that means, if your candidate wins it’s that one time every four years, where everyone is civil to each other, because approximately half the country are nursing wounds. Obama voters might be more apt to hold a door open for a sulking McCain fan. McCain voters will start letting the heartbroken Obama supporters move ahead of them in the grocery line. Every four years, it’s an almost unprecedented time of humanity and compassion.

And it typically only lasts for about, 12 min., give or take. And then we all run around for the next two weeks like blubbering assholes, doing the “I told you so” dance. There’s absolutely nothing that we as Americans enjoy more than saying, “I told you so”, or relishing a victory in the most asinine way possible. It’s in our blood.

-Revolutionary War: “More taxes for the colonies!”

With the sole exceptions of Guy Ritchie movies, and James Bond films, every British person in American cinema has made Woody Allen look like Vin Diesel. It’s like they’re an entire country of Hugh Grants. Oh so charming, but if you sneeze in their customs line, the entire country thinks it has SARS.

-The Civil War: “Slaves are a good thing!”

Admittedly, the South kinda had it coming to them. You can’t enslave a race of people, and then when you have to set them free, expect “bygones to be bygones.” It may have taken a while, but black folks have been consistently stickin' it to the south ever since. *Da dun tzzzzzzz*

-The Cold War: “Soviet Russia will never fall to the American pigdogs!”

Russia is kinda like the big fat kid on the playground. You know that when he’s standing it’s gonna take like, 16 dodge balls to knock him off balance, but once he starts falling, he’s not gonna get back up again. He’s just too heavy, and things are waaay more interesting on the ground anyways. In fact, he didn’t even want to be standing in the first place, so actually YOU did HIM a favor. Pigdogs.

So on election night when it’s all finally over, don’t kid yourselves with a “well it was a good race Ted”. That’s fucking bullshit, and you know it. The moment that the TV says, ”Obama wins! * ” you should be ripping your shirt off so the losers around you can bask in your pre-painted chest logo of a gigantic middle finger, painted red, white and blue. Because this is America goddamnit, and if we can’t rub victory in the loser’s face until he suffocates, then nobody wins my friends, just the terrorists.

*I’m sure John McCain has a very good chance of winning. Seriously.

Baltimore John Watch

For any of you that read this occasionally, you know I tend to not take things to seriously and have a lighthearted, if not crass attitude most times. However, there are some things that command the attention of not only my readership, but also my respect.

Baltimore John Watch is a blog run by (to my knowledge) several Pigtown residents who became so tired of the relentless assault of prostitution and drug dealing in their neighborhood, that they decided to do something about it. They've been watching as far as I can tell, since July of this year, cataloging the license plate numbers of prostitution clients , and taking homemade videos of drug dealings where they live.

While I live in Remington, I still feel this is a cause worth looking at, even if you don't live in Pigtown, because if it gets to the point where you feel your neighborhood is being overrun, you'd want the support too. Even if all you think you can do is read, that's good enough. BJW has a section for those of us online to make our voices heard to those in power, who can do more towards a solution to the problem. So if you can take the time to read this, you can take the time to follow their directions and send off a few emails to those who can help make changes that the good people at BJW work for, a reality. In closing, I'd like to say: nobjforyou, Dac72, BJW, acw, Sebastian-PGP if there were modern analouges for super heroes, they would be you. Stay safe.

City Living Updates

Well, the good news is that I haven't caught Hipsteritis (wiki deff.) yet, so that's a plus. I haven't really had time to catalog the goings ons in my neighborhood, so I'll just give you the highlights.

- The Thursday of the first week we moved in, 5 min. after I got home from work, the house next to us got busted for a drug raid. Busted in door and everything. I found out the week after from the people that live there that "the cops said they found 'seeds' in the alleyway behind us". No comment.

- There is a ghetto blastin' Ice Cream truck that comes around. The song is catchy and he has good prices. He however is a fat Armenian looking guy. Thats good marketing. Also, the ice cream rocks.

- The other night the cops were called on our other neighbors, possibly a domestic call, I'm not sure. However when the cops left, my neighbor spent the better part of 12 min. yelling in the streets that if "this neighborhood had a fucking problem with him, he was right fucking there." Then he got in his car, and sped off really fast. Also it was 1:20 am.

- I met a former Marine/ex-carthief who told me about how he was technically dead for 6 min. when he crashed during a dragrace. Nice guy.

- The corner bar on my block is awesome. I was outside once with my old roomate, and a guy told us about how he used to "keep this entire fuckin' city rollin' on acid, man! You guys ever done acid?" No, we replied. "You should man, it'll expand your fuckin' mind!" Then he told us about trying to bang his girlfriend, while driving drunk, going 95mph on Costal Highway outside of Ocean City. He got pulled over and the cops let him go. I'm convinced this man is a magician, or a sorcerer.

- Also at the bar, I met a guy that looks/sounds just like Crabman from My Name is Earl! His name was Rick. He sells bikes. Also his shirt said "beer time", and there was a digital clock with beer for the numbers. Awesome.

- We live near the Charm City Cakes shop, and drink at the bar, The Diz which is right across the street from it. Last week I saw one of the cake decorators, Elena, outside smoking so I went out to "make a call" and to siphon some of her cool by being in close proximity. Two min. later Mary Alice from the show drove by and told Elena, that she was going to "shit on your balls". I'm no baker, but I'm pretty sure that's code for, "shit on your balls."

More to come.
