People who don’t have dyslexia, who look at the word dyslexia have a pretty raw deal.
I mean look at it, D-Y-S-L-E-X-I-A. It looks like a section from a word search puzzle, that has absolutely nothing across. Those 8 letters couldn’t possibly make something coherent, yet sure enough, they always do. It’s kinda like one of those magic pictures you’d see in grade school. The ones where the bigger picture looks like a plate of vomit, but you’re supposed to see a sailboat, or a schooner.
There’s nothing else that even rhymes with dyslexia. Except for “anorexia”, which is also comically misspelled by having way to many letters in it.
I think somewhere down the line, when we figured out what exactly dyslexia was all about, the least we could do is let the poor schmucks who have it, spell their own disorder. Boy, what a mistake that was. I think they must’ve chosen something to them that would’ve highlighted their plight, and had an epic, noble air about it. Instead they got the personification of a sneeze.
On the other hand however, maybe they tried to make the name of their disorder just as hard to us, as it was to them. Possibly to level the playing field a little bit. It’s almost like the same slap in the face we give to the blind, by putting brail lettering on drive thru ATM’s, knowing full well that it’s 100% unlikely, that they’ll able to drive themselves to it. They could just as well be saying, “if we have to suffer, so do you.”
And so by that explanation, I think that people who don’t have dyslexia, who look at the word dyslexia, have a pretty raw deal.
